According to Variety, the company is ordering two fresh seasons of the animated series, which ran on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim from 2005 to 2014.

The revamped series will have 24 episodes and launch in fall 2020 when HBO Max makes its debut. All 55 episodes of the original show will also be available.

In the reimagined series, Robert Freeman and his two grandsons Huey and Riley have recently moved to a new neighborhood that’s been taken over by “the tyrannical Uncle Ruckus,” the release read. “Life under Ruckus turns out to be an everyday struggle to survive.”

Aaron McGruder, the creator of the series, will return as the showrunner and said making the reboot “should be fun.”

“There’s a unique opportunity to revisit the world of ‘The Boondocks’ and do it over again for today,” McGruder said in a statement. “It’s crazy how different the times we live in are now – both politically and culturally – more than a decade past the original series and two decades past the original newspaper comic. There’s a lot to say.”
