Several Netflix originals, including “Ozark” and “Stranger Things,” are filmed right here in Georgia. Now, the platform could be adding another series with Georgia ties to that list.
The streaming service recently announced a new multi-generation comedy called "Family Reunion," starring Tia Mowry and Loretta Devine, according to a press release.
The project will follow Cocao McKellan, played by Mowry, a free-spirited wife and mother of four from Seattle.
“When she and her former football-playing husband Moz and their four children travel from their home in the big city to the small town of Columbus, Georgia for the McKellan Family Reunion, they get to know an extended family they didn’t even realize they were missing,” the description reads. Devine will portray the matriarch of the family, M’Dear.
Netflix said it hopes to encourage audiences to discover the importance of connecting with their roots and has assembled an all-black writers’ team to create and develop authentic characters.
“I have a dream cast and thanks to my incredibly talented group of executives at Netflix, I am having the most supportive and creatively fulfilling experience of my career,” added executive producer Meg DeLoatch, whose credits include “Fuller House” and “Eve.”
No word yet on when it will premiere, but 20 episodes have been ordered and production has already begun in Los Angeles, according to Deadline.
