A woman was robbed at gunpoint at a Brookhaven apartment complex before the man shot her and ran away early Saturday, police said.
The 33-year-old victim was shot in the left thigh and suffered non-life-threatening injuries at the Post Glen apartments on Peachtree Road, according to a police report obtained by AJC.com.
She told officers she was walking from her apartment building to a friend’s apartment in the complex when a man approached and asked her if she had a lighter. She said no, “and that’s when the subject ran towards her,” the incident report stated.
The woman tried to keep the man away from her by pointing her open umbrella at him, the report stated. He then grabbed her purse and shot her with what she believed was a revolver, police said.
Her friend — who she was on the way to visit — told police he heard her screaming and saw her lying on the ground, before helping her up and calling 911.
The suspect ran toward the Brookhaven/Oglethorpe MARTA station, the incident report stated. He was not identified but was described as 6 feet tall with a thick build and short hair.
The victim said he took her red Prada purse, which contained her wallet and several credit cards.
The apartment management company, MAA, sent an email to residents Monday informing them about the incident and reminding them to stay cautious and alert.
