A California woman walking home with a friend over the weekend was killed when a man jumped from the ninth floor of a parking garage in an apparent suicide attempt and landed on top of her, according to reports.

Taylor Kahle of San Diego was pronounced dead at the scene, and the man who leapt from the building was taken to a hospital where he died of his injuries.

The 29-year-old woman had been out with a man she met online about 7:30 p.m. Sunday when the unthinkable happened, according to NBC affiliate KNSD. She was a week shy of her 30th birthday.

Her date was unharmed.

The unidentified man who took his own life was believed to be between 20 and 30 years old.

He and the woman died from blunt force injuries, according to the San Diego medical examiner.

Kahle is survived by her father, whom she lived with along with two rescue dogs.

Numerous tributes have poured in on social media since the tragic accident.

A makeshift memorial was set up where the incident occurred in the Gaslamp Quarter area of downtown San Diego, the same district where a shooting spree killed one and wounded four others just days earlier.
