Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta, Ga., is an Air Force facility but serves multiple functions, including as headquarters of the Georgia National Guard. It is also next door to Lockheed Martin's Marietta plant.

The base is set to accept some of the passengers from a cruise ship quarantined due to coronavirus. According to Military Times, Dobbins was identified by the Pentagon in February in a list of military sites that could house passengers quarantined for possible exposure to the coronavirus.

Other military facilities serving as coronavirus quarantine locations include Travis Air Force Base, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar and Lackland Air Force Base, according to news reports.

According to the Dobbins web site, the base is also used by the 94th Airlift Wing, 22nd Air Force Headquarters, the Army Reserve, Marine Reserve and Civil Air Patrol. The base supports thousands of jobs.

Dobbins is a massive landmark bounded on two sides by U.S. 41 and Georgia 280 between Smyrna and downtown Marietta in Cobb County. Its runways are able to handle large aircraft.

It is used as a landing site for the president's plane, Air Force One, during visits to Atlanta.

It was once the site of the Bell Bomber Plant. The Lockheed Martin plant manufactures massive C-130 aircraft.

Dobbins is designated as the intake center for biological missions tied to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to previous AJC coverage. In 2015, it served as a landing strip for planes carrying patients affected by the Ebola outbreak who were being moved to Emory University Hospital.

In 2005, Dobbins also served as a landing spot for many evacuees from Hurricane Katrina.
