Man mistakenly invited to bachelor party ends up going anyhow

A man from the Seattle suburbs is headed to a bachelor party in Philadelphia on March 28, even though he doesn’t know the groom.

That is to say, he didn’t know him before he accidentally ended up on an email chain planning the guy’s bachelor party. Joe DiJulio, 31, has the same last name as a friend of the groom.

Joey DiJulio said he was a “fly on the wall” for weeks, quietly following the email updates without giving himself away, relying on Google to figure out what and where everyone was talking about, since he had never been to the Northeast.

"I had no idea what any of these places are," said DiJulio, 31, who's never been to the Northeast. "After Googling them, everything was pointing to Philadelphia."

When the groom asked for a headcount of who would be at the bachelor party, DiJulio finally spoke up.

"I have no idea who any of you guys are, but I have been enjoying being a fly on the wall hearing about the plans for this bachelor party over the last few months," DiJulio wrote. "I live out in Seattle, WA and although for a moment I thought it might be funny to just show up and be that guy nobody knows but everyone wonders 'who is that guy?', buying a plane ticket for a cross-country flight just to crash a bachelor's party might be a bit over the top." The groom, 34-year-old Jeff Minetti, took the news in such good humor that he invited DiJulio to the bachelor party and the wedding.
Dijulio accepted, set up an online fund-raiser to pay for the trip and had raised enough to make the trip by Thursday afternoon. He'll head out to Philadelphia next weekend.

The bachelor party, by the way, is described as a “low-key” event involving some bars, possibly a casino, possibly some March Madness.
