A Fourth of July fireworks show in Ocean City, Maryland, was canceled Sunday after fireworks unintentionally exploded while they were being set up for the event.

One employee of the fireworks company was taken to the hospital for minor injuries, Ocean City Fire said. There were no other injuries.

“Our Fire Marshals are on the scene and will investigate the cause of the unintentional discharge,” Ocean City Fire Chief Richie Bowers said on Facebook. “Prior to the fireworks being off loaded from the vehicle, Fire Marshals secure a safe zone around the fireworks and put other safety protocols in place. It is this very zone and safety protocols that kept anyone else from being injured.”

Out of caution, the town canceled the show.

“Due to an abundance of caution, this evening’s Downtown Fireworks have been canceled,” the city said on social media. “Updates for the Uptown Show at Northside Park will be provided when they become available.”
