The original Pinkie Masters is an iconic bar in Savannah, Georgia. Pinkie Masters, born Luis Christopher Masterpolis, opened what was originally known as The Rainbow Grill in 1951. A first-generation American whose parents had emigrated to Savannah from Greece, his lounge became the hub for political activity. In 1978, former president Jimmy Carter made the watering hole famous after giving a speech atop the counter. The fondness for the bar and its connection to the former president have sparked many urban legends about Carter.
