Atlanta police Thursday were looking for three men who kidnapped a Buckhead man and forced him to withdraw money from several cash machines before returning to the victim’s home and stealing his car.
The 35-year-old victim told police he had just arrived at his home on Mathieson Road around 1:30 a.m. Thursday and was getting out of his car when he was approached by the three men, one armed with a shotgun, and forced into their orange Dodge Neon, Atlanta police Sgt. Greg Lyon told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The suspects drove the victim to two Bank of America branches and two convenience stores in the area of Peachtree, Piedmont and Pharr roads, and forced him to withdraw a total of $700 in cash.
“The suspects then returned the victim to his residence where they went inside and forced the victim to write them a personal check for $2,500 and took the victim’s 2000 dark green Honda Civic,” Lyon told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in an email.
The suspects put the victim back in their vehicle, drove him to the 2900 block of Peachtree Road and released him.
The victim was not injured.
“He’s very shaken up and afraid and he’s going to stay somewhere else for the night, at least,” Atlanta police Capt. Janet Brady told Channel 2 Action News.
“I don’t think he was targeted,” Brady said. “I think they just saw an opportunity, someone that was returning home.”
Police are looking for the victim’s Honda, with Georgia tag BUJ0596.
