United Airlines is joining the fight to incentivize Americans to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Chicago-based company announced Monday that new or existing members of its MileagePlus loyalty program who upload their vaccination records to United’s mobile app by June 22 will be entered to win free flights for a year of travel.

“We’re proud to do our part to incentivize people to get their shot,” United CEO Scott Kirby said in a news release.

“Thanks to the vaccine, more and more destinations are opening up for travel — and we know our customers are eager to fly.”

The airline also is giving away 30 pairs of roundtrip flights for two in first class or any other class to any destination it has flights to during June.

And on July 1, the company will announce five randomly selected grand prize winners who will get a full year of travel for themselves and a companion.

An added bonus is that passengers who upload their vaccine records with United will save time when they’re ready to fly to places where proof of vaccination is required.

United Airlines is not the first company to offer incentives to help boost slowing vaccination rates. New York and Ohio are running vaccination lotteries, while Target this month began offering $5 coupons to those getting vaccinated at CVS pharmacies inside its stores nationwide.
