Just when everyone thought Tyler Perry had hung up the muumuu and gray wig, the studio head recently announced he would bring by the character who kicked off his career in a touring play.
"Madea's Farewell" play tour will come to several cities throughout the Southeast, including three Georgia cities, in 2020, Perry announced over the weekend. Tickets are now on sale for the tour, which begins in Columbus on Jan. 18. The post says "this is your last chance to see Madea on stage."
The now-blockbuster film series that centers around the mouthy-but-lovable grandma began as a touring stage play in 1999, with “I Can Do Bad All By Myself.” The character of Mabel Earlene “Madea” Simmons would eventually help sell out venues across the country in plays such as “Diary of a Mad Black Woman,” “Madea’s Family Reunion” and “Madea Goes to Jail.” Those successful plays would also all become some of Perry’s most popular films.

Last year, the actor and filmmaker told his fans he would end the “Madea” franchise in 2019. The film “A Madea Family Funeral” would add yet another hit to Perry’s film catalog.
“I just don’t want to be her age (still) playing her,” he joked in an interview with Sirius XM.
Though "Madea" is returning as a stage play, Perry is still seemingly keeping his promise of ending the film franchise devoted to her. Tickets are on sale here.
If you’d like to see Madea one last time, here are the dates of the touring play next year, which start at $45.
