It should stay dry and mild Tuesday with more sunshine expected throughout the day, according to Channel 2 Action News.

A projected high of 58 degrees is slightly above average for this time of year, but Channel 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz said it will still feel cool. Atlanta should hit the high around 4 p.m. Tuesday, he said.

High humidity Tuesday morning could contribute to foggy conditions and diminished visibility on the ride into work, according to Nitz.

“Humidity has come way up to 97%,” he said. “Just a little bit of patchy fog to start the day, but dry today. Tomorrow with a 20% chance of a shower.”

Rain chances will increase for the end of the week, however. Nitz expects North Georgia will be pretty soggy when it is time to say goodbye to 2020 on Thursday.

“At midnight, ringing in the new year, we’re going to have widespread rain,” he said. “It looks like some embedded heavier downpours and the risk of a few thunderstorms. As a cold front approaches New Year’s Day, it pushes through and it brings the potential for some heavier rain, gustier wind, an isolated strong to severe storm.”

The risk of severe weather goes up Friday afternoon and evening before the system pushes away to the east. The southern half of the area will see the most storm impacts, Nitz said.

“Although the (storm) risk is not the greatest, it’s not zero,” he said.

At least it is dry Tuesday. The fog is not causing any major delays for the morning drive, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

Drivers should still use caution and keep headlights on for safety, the Traffic Center said.
