The wreck happened when an officer tried to stop a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run.

A woman is in police custody after officers said she rammed her car into a police cruiser when they tried to make a traffic stop.

The crash and subsequent police activity blocked all but one lane on the inner loop of I-285 before Memorial Drive, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. The roadway reopened about 4 p.m., the Traffic Center reported.

The incident started when a DeKalb County police officer tried to stop a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run, according to spokesman Sgt. J.D. Spencer. The details of the hit-and-run have not been released.

The driver tried to hit one police car before striking another, Spencer said. She was taken into custody after authorities stopped her south of East Ponce de Leon Avenue on I-285, according to police.

No injuries were reported.

Traffic jams continue to cause heavy delays in the area. The Traffic Center reported delays of more than one hour back to I-85.

Drivers are encouraged to use downtown or surface streets as alternate routes, according to the Traffic Center.
