A Ball Ground woman was killed Wednesday morning when her SUV ran off the road on I-575 in Cherokee County.

Taylor Brooke Ellis, 27, was ejected from her Jeep Liberty after she lost control on a curve, hit two trees and the vehicle overturned, according to the Georgia State Patrol. The deadly accident shut down the northbound lanes of the interstate in Canton for nearly three hours while authorities investigated in the rain.

Troopers do not know what caused Ellis’ Jeep to leave the road near Ga. 140, a GSP spokesman said. She veered off the east edge of the interstate and started to spin, striking a tree on the Jeep’s left side before spinning and striking another tree on the right.

The vehicle came to rest on its top, the spokesman said. Troopers responded to the scene about 6:15 a.m., and the northbound lanes did not reopen until just after 9 a.m.

During the shutdown, traffic was forced off at the Ga. 140 exit and back onto I-575.

The wreck was the second to prompt an hourslong shutdown of a metro Atlanta interstate Wednesday morning. A crash resulted in a tractor-trailer fire on I-75 in Henry County, and southbound lanes were blocked for about three hours before they reopened at 7:45 a.m.
