Eight people were killed in traffic crashes statewide during the Memorial Day weekend, 10 fewer than in the same period in 2017, the state Department of Public Safety said Tuesday.
Georgia troopers investigated 474 traffic crashes that resulted in 268 injuries, the department said in a statement. That compares to 414 crashes and 204 injuries last year.
Troopers arrested 300 people for DUI, up from 262 last year.

Local agencies reporting traffic deaths during the holiday period were the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and the Cobb County, Columbus and Thomaston police departments.
The 78-hour holiday period began at 6 p.m. Friday and ended at 11:59 p.m. Monday.
