A man and his wife were killed in a fiery weekend crash in Coweta County while they were out on a date, according to Channel 2 Action News.
The crash happened about 9 p.m. Saturday when a black Infiniti blew through a red light on Ga. 54 and Fischer Crossing Boulevard in Sharpsburg and slammed into the couple’s silver Ford Escape, the Georgia State Patrol said.
Thomas Scott Mayo, 57, and Pamela Mayo, 58, were headed to NCG Cinemas at the time of the crash, according to Channel 2. They were pronounced dead on the scene, the GSP reported.
Andrew John Wiemann, the 28-year-old Acworth man who was driving the black Infiniti, has not been charged in connection with the crash.
He was taken to Atlanta Medical Center. His condition was unknown early Tuesday morning.
Timberli Williams was working at the movie theater Saturday night.
"I was able to see all the smoke and the fire," she told Channel 2.
Williams and her father, Timothy Williams, nearly died at the same intersection three years ago, according to the news station.
They warned officials then to change the speed limit in the area from 55 to 45 mph and to add a turn signal for the movie theater, Channel 2 reported.
The Georgia Department of Transportation said it is getting a tally on the number of accidents at the intersection.
