Closures on one northbound lane and one southbound lane of I-85 in Atlanta have been rescheduled closer to Memorial Day weekend, the Georgia Department of Transportation said Thursday.

Originally, the lanes were scheduled to close at 10 p.m. Thursday and reopen at 5 a.m. Friday. They will now close at 10 p.m. May 26 and reopen at 5 a.m. May 27, GDOT spokeswoman Annalysce Baker said.

The closures will allow contractors to work on the Peachtree Street Bridge.

On I-85 northbound, the closed area will be from the I-75/I-85 split to Buford Highway. On I-85 southbound, the closure will be from the I-75 interchange to the 10th/14th/17th Street exit.

Delays are expected, Baker said. She urged drivers to slow down and be cautious, as workers and heavy equipment will be close to the road.
