A fire engine was hit by a pickup truck Tuesday morning while responding to a crash on I-85 North in Coweta County.

About 5:15 a.m., the fire truck was blocking the far left lane near mile marker 49, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

As a Ford F-150 behind the fire truck slowed, a Dodge Ram hit it, the GSP said.

The F-150 went around the fire truck, and the Ram continued forward and struck the rear of the fire engine, according to the GSP.

The Ram overturned and landed on its side on top of a median wall, officials said.

The driver of the F-150 was taken to Atlanta Medical Center, and the driver of the Ram was taken to Piedmont Newnan Hospital, the GSP reported. Both had injuries that were not life-threatening.

No one in the fire truck was injured.

It is unclear what caused the crash, which shut down I-85 for nearly two hours.

Northbound lanes reopened about 7:10 a.m., the GSP reported.
