A truck overturned in northwest Atlanta and downed power lines Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

The truck snagged the lines, causing them to fall on Bolton Road at James Jackson Parkway, Atlanta police spokeswoman Stephanie Brown told AJC.com.

She said the driver is conscious and was taken to a nearby hospital. Atlanta Fire Rescue assisted in responding to the incident.

A Waffle House employee, Sebastian Mathis, helped pull the driver out of the truck, an EMS worker told Channel 2 Action News.

Georgia Power spokesman John Craft told AJC.com the downed lines have been de-energized.

He said power has been restored to 80 percent of the affected customers and they are working to restore power to about 200 remaining customers.
