An 11-year-old girl was killed Thursday after she and eight others were ejected in a two-vehicle wreck on I-75 North in Henry County, the Georgia State Patrol confirmed.

The wreck occurred about 8 a.m. near the Bill Gardner Parkway exit.

GSP officials said the driver of a Mercury Mountaineer overcorrected her steering and lost control while attempting to change lanes.

The Mercury then struck a Nissan Sentra before traveling back across the roadway onto the east shoulder of the interstate, GSP officials said. The Mercury flipped several times. Six children and three adults were ejected.

The girl was confirmed dead at the scene.

GSP officials said the eight others were taken to different hospitals, including three who were flown.

The driver of the Nissan was injured but was not transported.

No identities have been released.

All lanes on I-75 North were blocked as authorities investigated. All lanes reopened by noon.

A second crash in the same area involving an SUV and a box truck temporarily closed all southbound lanes, Locust Grove police confirmed. Two people were taken to the hospital. Those lanes reopened about 12:30 p.m.
