The 2019 winning AJC Peachtree T-shirt design exhibits the nostalgia of the traditional, no-frills bib many runners have worn over the years.
To celebrate the 50th running of the AJC Peachtree Road Race, race organizers the Atlanta Track Club offered a unique opportunity to vote for local celebrity designs for this year’s t-shirt.
The competition was stiff with designs curated by the likes of Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms Insung Kim, creative director for the Atlanta Braves; Atlanta Hawks mascot Harry the Hawk; New York Times best-selling author Emily Giffin; and AJC Peachtree Road Race legend Jeff Galloway, who won the first-ever race.
Of all the designs, the classic bib design from Giffin received the greatest number of votes. More than 20,000 votes were cast.
"The voters have spoken - and in record numbers for the AJC Peachtree Road Race T-shirt Contest," said Rich Kenah, Race Director. "We are thrilled to see Emily's design on 60,000 t-shirts and honored that her entire family, and the artist she worked with to create the winning art all crossed the finish line of the world's largest 10K!"

Giffin, who wrote New York Times bestsellers “Something Borrowed” and “All We Ever Wanted,” runs the race with her husband and kids each year, so she was “thrilled” to play a role in the 50th annual AJC Peachtree Road Race. Giffin worked with her three children (Edward, George and Harriet) to come up with the concept for this design, called “Lucky Bib.”
“Like all families, mine enjoys many special traditions on the holidays,” Giffin said. “But our favorite, by far, is running the AJC Peachtree Road Race on the Fourth of July in Atlanta, the best running community in the world!”
She brought in a past champion to bring her family’s design to life. Tina Tait, an Atlanta-based graphic designer who won the contest in 2015, did the artwork on this entry. Coincidentally, just like the Peachtree, Tina is turning 50 this year.
