Q: Does the University of Georgia pay royalties to the Green Bay Packers for the use of the “G” in their logo?
—Bob Markert, Roswell
A: Georgia doesn't pay the Green Bay Packers, athletic department spokesman Claude Felton told Q&A on the News in an email.
The Bulldogs have used the “forward-looking ‘G’ ” since 1964, when new football coach Vince Dooley added the logo to Georgia’s helmets.
Even though Georgia’s oval ‘G’ was slightly different than the logo used by the NFL’s Green Bay Packers, Dooley – according to GeorgiaDogs.com – cleared it with the Packers, who had used a similar design since 1961.
The Bulldogs used a block “G” on the side of their football helmets for select games in 1962, but wore plain silver helmets in 1963.
Dooley also changed the helmet color from silver to red and added a white stripe in 1964.
Dooley coached the Bulldogs until 1988.
Q: I saw a commercial for Eggland’s Best Eggs, which promises more vitamins and 25 percent less saturated fat. How can they do that?
—David Dickey, Dallas
A: Eggland's Best feeds its hens a vegetarian diet that includes grains, canola oil, rice bran, alfalfa, sea kelp and vitamin E, which contains "more vitamins and minerals than ordinary hen feed," the company states at egglandsbest.com.
Eggsland’s Best says its eggs contain 60 calories, compared to 70 for other eggs, in addition to having less total fat, saturated fat and cholesterol.
Eggsland’s Best doesn’t use hormones, steroids or antibiotics, according to the website.
