Q: I read the paper daily, but I haven't read what happened to the baby they found in the casket in Argentina or the baby in Missouri who was kidnapped. Please inform me of the results of those cases. — Suzanne Hugueley, Avondale Estates
A: Luz Milagros, the Argentine baby, went into cardiac arrest and died of "multi-organ failure and disseminated intravascular coagulation" on June 23, 2013, 14 months after being found alive in a morgue refrigerator. Milagros weighed only 1.5 pounds when she was born three months premature on April 3, 2012. Doctors at Perrando Hospital in Chaco, Argentina, said they couldn't find vital signs and the baby was placed in a wooden coffin in the hospital's morgue. When Analia Boutet, the baby's mother, went to view the body, she found the baby was alive 12 hours after she had been declared dead. Milagros had many health issues, including slow brain development and microcephaly, a "rare neurological condition in which an infant's head is significantly smaller than the heads of other children of the same age and sex," according to the Mayo Clinic.
Mitchell Farris, who was six months old when he went missing from Anderson, Mo., on Jan. 2, was found safe and healthy 10 days later in Miami. Police said Preston Farris, the boy’s father, took him from the child’s great-grandfather, who has legal custody. Both Preston Farris, and Anastasia McDaniel, the baby’s mother, were taken into custody.
