Police believe speed and the weather were factors in a Henry County wreck that killed a 14-year-old girl and injured five other passengers in an SUV.
Victoria Goldware of McDonough died at the scene of the wreck on northbound I-75 at Exit 219 on Thursday, according to Henry County Police.
Goldware, a 4-year-old girl and 2-month-old twins were ejected from the Ford Expedition they were riding in, said Henry County Police Spokesman Joey Smith. Two other female passengers were also injured.
Smith said the 4-year-old has multiple fractures and is being treated at Egleston Hospital for Children. The twins, a boy and a girl, both suffered severe head injuries and are also being treated at Egleston, he said. The preliminary investigation shows that the victims were not properly restrained, said Smith.
Police did not release names of the two others who were injured or say if any of the passengers are related. A 16-year-old female passenger suffered serious injuries and is being treated at Grady Memorial Hospital. A 30-year-old female passenger is being treated at Atlanta Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Smith said five of seven passengers were ejected from the SUV.
The SUV driver lost control and the vehicle struck the center guardrail and spun back into traffic where the victims were ejected, said Smith. The driver of the SUV and passengers in a vehicle it struck were not injured.
Smith said the 19-year-old driver of the SUV, whose name was not released, was not injured and no charges have been filed.
