'Talking Kitty Cat' YouTube star dies at age 40

A popular YouTube personality, known for his “Talking Kitty Cat” series, has died at the age of 40, according to his wife. Steve Cash was found dead at his home Thursday morning, according to a Facebook post from his wife Celia Cash.

She posted a tribute to her husband late Thursday night. Cash told her Facebook friends that Thursday she lost her husband, who she called her best friend and mentor.

“This is so hard. I’m not even sure what to say, or for that matter, what to do,” Celia Cash wrote on her Facebook page. “I just lost my best friend, my sidekick, my lover, my mentor, my absolute everything, this morning.”

Nampa Police Department told People that the 40-year-old died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his home in Idaho and was found by police around 7:30 a.m. Thursday. There was no indication of foul play, police said.

The Idaho man started creating quirky YouTube videos featuring his cats speaking via voiceover around the time that cat personalities and memes were becoming more prevalent online. The musician, who started his YouTube channel in 2007, amassed more than 770 million views over the years.

Cash, also known as SteveCash83, was one of the two main protagonists of his popular sketch comedy series, alongside his feline enemy Sylvester. Many of the videos were filmed in his kitchen and featured various comedic scenarios with his pets.

Cash and the “Talking Kitty Cat” channel last posted a sketch in late December. The video attracted about 3 million viewers in the last couple of months.

A few fans and friends posted tributes to the popular YouTuber Friday.
