Suspect in deadly Georgia shooting arrested in front of elementary school

1 dead,  another wounded as investigators look for connection to a separate killing in South Carolina

Hart County deputies arrest Larrendrick Rashad Tabor Tuesday morning on Bowman Highway in front of South Hart Elementary for his alleged involvement in a shooting Monday night.

A suspect wanted in connection with a double-shooting that left one dead and another wounded in Hartwell, Ga., was arrested Tuesday in front of an elementary school after a 12-hour manhunt, according to police and news reports.

Larrendrick Rashad Tabor surrendered to Hart County Deputies and Georgia State Troopers just after 8 a.m. at South Hart Elementary School, which had already been closed for the day due to the ongoing manhunt.

Police said Tabor shot and killed a man Monday and wounded a woman by stabbing her and shooting her in the leg in the same incident, according to The Hartwell Sun.

Police have not released the names of either victim, but Fox Carolina News reported the name of the male victim as Correndrick Alexander. The woman is expected to survive.

The alleged attack may have been gang-related and connected to another recent slaying in Anderson County, S.C., according to Hart County Sheriff Mike Cleveland.

In that incident, police are investigating the death of 18-year-old Mericus Scott, of Royston, Ga., who was found shot to death Jan. 20 in a retention pond in nearby Anderson County, S.C.

Tabor, meanwhile, has been charged with murder, aggravated assault and home invasion in Monday’s attack, Cleveland said.

He also faces charges of aggravated assault in Hartwell from a previous incident, according to reports.

Authorities had spent all night Monday searching for Tabor when they chanced upon him walking down Ga. Highway 172 early Tuesday near the school, reports said.

Reports said bloodhounds and a Georgia Bureau of Investigation helicopter were deployed to find Tabor.

Tabor was armed with a semi-automatic pistol at the time of his arrest and bleeding from a hand wound he suffered in a "knife attack last night," Cleveland said.

“I am relieved,” Cleveland said. “I didn't think it would end this peacefully. I really didn’t, but it did. We’ll take that every day.”

Tabor was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Lavonia for treatment , according to The Sun.

His first court appearance is expected within 72 hours.
