The next several days should be rain-free in metro Atlanta, but temperatures will cool off slightly after a warmer-than-average start to the new year.
Sunday is expected to be mostly sunny, making it a good day to get outdoors, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said. Wind speeds will increase as the temperature drops, however, so those heading outside may want to bring along a light jacket.
“Temperatures have been nice and mild to kick off this first weekend of 2021,” Deon said. “We are going to see more sunshine (Sunday), but our temperatures are going to be back to average.”
The afternoon high is expected to reach 52 degrees in the city, which is Atlanta’s average temperature for the third day of the year, Deon said. There’s a 10% chance of showers, but no widespread rain is expected.
The drier weather and mild temperatures will stick around for most of the week before rain returns Thursday evening and early Friday, according to the latest forecast.

After suspending most construction projects along busy interstates over the holidays, Georgia Department of Transportation crews will continue roadwork on Monday night, the agency said.
Two northbound lanes of Roswell Road will be closed each night of the workweek from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. as work continues at the I-285/Ga. 400 interchange. The lane closures will impact drivers between Lake Placid and Carpenter drives, GDOT said in a tweet.
Drivers in the area are urged to slow down, watch for workers and give themselves extra time to reach their destinations.
