State Rep.-elect Michael Brown, a Republican who won his Gwinnett County seat in the May 20 primary, has died, according to his campaign manager.

Seth Weathers said the cause of death was not yet known but it is believed Brown died died of natural causes.

Brown won 61 percent of the vote in his primary contest against David Hancock.

No Democrat qualified to run in the race to replace Rep. Josh Clark, R-Buford, who chose not to run again.

The state Republican Party’s executive committee may name a new candidate to take Brown’s place on the November ballot.
