Georgia congressional candidates Lucy McBath and Carolyn Bourdeaux on Thursday picked up endorsements from Emily’s List, a political action committee that backs Democratic women who support abortion rights.
In endorsing McBath for the 6th Congressional District, the PAC cited her work as a prominent gun control activist, calling her a “hardworking mother who a was drawn to social justice advocacy through personal experience and a passion for change.” The Marietta resident, whose 17-year-old son was gunned down six years ago outside a Florida convenience store, is aiming for Roswell Congresswoman Karen Handel’s seat.

A Suwanee resident who has taught public management and policy at Georgia State University, Bourdeaux is seeking Lawrenceville Congressman Rob Woodall’s 7th District seat. The PAC called Bourdeaux, who has outraised Woodall in campaign contributions so far this year, “an experienced leader whose lifelong commitment to public service has prepared her to be a voice for Forsyth and Gwinnett county families in Congress.”
