Guest speakers on Georgia's college campuses might not have to worry about being heckled anymore after the Senate on Thursday approved a bill that would make it illegal.
Senate Bill 339 aims to keep people from interrupting students and guests invited to speak on the state's public colleges and universities.
The bill also would require Georgia’s public colleges and universities to create less restrictive policies for groups trying to get permits to speak or post displays at their preferred locations on campus. Two student groups have sued Kennesaw State University in recent weeks, complaining its guidelines are discriminatory.
The House passed an amended version of the legislation earlier this week, and the Senate agreed to those changes on Thursday.
The measure heads to Gov. Nathan Deal for his consideration.
