A new analysis of performance with at-risk student groups shows Atlanta with a relatively high percentage of schools that "beat the odds."
The annual statistical analysis by the Governor's Office of Student Achievement compares schools' ability to teach based on student characteristics that are "outside the school's control." Race, ethnicity, disabilities, English fluency, economic "disadvantage" and transience were considered in Thursday's report for 2017.
Typically, 40 percent of schools beat the odds. In Atlanta Public Schools, it was 61 percent, according to a review by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
