Stacey Abrams to appear at Stonecrest rally on final day of early voting

On the last day of early voting before the 2020 presidential election, DeKalb County residents may see some well-known faces if they choose to cast their vote in Stonecrest.

From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, the city will host a drive-in “Rally the Vote” event, which will feature former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams among other Democrats and community members. Stonecrest’s early voting location is in the parking lot of a former Sam’s Club at 2994 Turner Hill Road.

The event will be hosted by Stonecrest Mayor Jason Lary and will feature a “surprise celebrity guest,” according to a news release. Masks will be required, social distancing will be enforced and all attendees must either stay in their vehicles or stand within their parking space.

More than 92% of Stonecrest’s population is Black, and it is one of the most consistently Democrat-voting areas in the county. Abrams also grew up in DeKalb, where she attended Avondale High School.
