Police are investigating after two different sets of human remains found burning in South Fulton were determined to have come from Atlanta.

South Fulton police were sent to a location along Jones Road to respond to a fire about 4:30 a.m. Friday, the agency said in a statement. When officers arrived, they found what appeared to be human remains.

It was the second occasion of remains being found in South Fulton in one week, police said. About 6 a.m. on June 12, officers were sent to the 4100 block of Union Road to investigate a vehicle fire and found what appeared to be a set of human remains.

“These preliminary investigations have revealed that both cases originated from incidents within the city of Atlanta’s jurisdiction,” South Fulton police said. “Our detectives are working tirelessly on these cases to bring closure to the victim’s families.”

Police have not released the name of either victim. Anyone with information on either case is asked to contact South Fulton police.
