The second man wanted in connection with the October 2014 death of a man shot eight times in College Park has been arrested.

The Clayton County Sheriff’s Office said authorities Tuesday captured Fernando Cartavious Bennefield in the 2700 block of Camp Creek Parkway in College Park.

Authorities have been looking for Bennefield, 22, since the Oct. 3 shooting death of 36-year-old Timothy Carthan at the West Cove Apartments.

Officers responding to the complex on West Fayetteville Road found Carthan with multiple gunshot wounds, College Park police Master Sgt. Jeff Hightower said.

According to witnesses, an armed man shot Carthan once, then seven additional times after he was already down, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported.

Carthan was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his wounds, Hightower said.

The sheriff's office Wednesday said Bennefield is the suspected shooter. College Park police on Feb. 19 arrested Marquis Antonio Acree in connection with the shooting.
