The New Orleans-based rapper known as Mystikal surrendered himself to authorities Monday in Louisiana where he faces a sexual assault charge, Shreveport police said.
KSLA-TV video-recorded the 46-year-old rapper, whose full name is Michael Lawrence Tyler, as he entered the Caddo Correctional Center in northwest Louisiana.
Tyler was wanted on a warrant listing a charge of first-degree rape in connection with an encounter at a downtown Shreveport casino last October.
Police said they recovered DNA evidence during their initial investigation that allegedly linked Tyler, 46, of Prairieville, and Averweone Holman, 26, of Killeen, Texas, to the rape.
Detectives collected witness statements, statements from the victim and physical evidence, according to police. Investigators submitted that physical evidence to the North Louisiana Criminalistics Laboratory for DNA analysis.
Investigators obtained warrants for Tyler and Holman charging each with one count of first-degree rape. Bail was set at $2 million each. The U.S. Marshal's Task Force arrested Holman in Killeen on Friday.
Police also said that after Investigators obtained arrest warrants, a friend of the accused, Tenichia Wafford, 42, of Harker Heights, Texas, allegedly sought the victim out in an effort to persuade her to drop charges against Tyler and Holman.
Investigators subsequently obtained a warrant for Wafford's arrest charging her with one count of accessory after the fact to first-degree rape. Her bail was set at $200,000.
Tyler was released from a Louisiana prison in 2010 after serving six years for sexual battery and extortion.
