An unwelcome discovery inside a Walton County home Saturday night resulted in the shooting deaths of two men.

Monroe police officers believe Jevaun Campbell shot Tyreke Strozier after finding Strozier with the mother of his child. Campbell left the home after the shooting and only made it a few blocks down the street before turning the gun on himself, according to a police report obtained Thursday by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Officers discovered Strozier bleeding inside a bedroom in a multifamily home on Gliding Lane shortly after 10 p.m. Two teenage boys ushered the first responders inside, where they found Strozier conscious and lying on a bed with a gunshot wound to his chest. His distraught girlfriend was trying to stop the bleeding with a cloth, officers said in the report.

According to the report, the teens told police they let Campbell inside the house when he said he wanted to see the woman. Campbell walked straight into the bedroom, and one boy said he heard yelling before two gunshots rang out.

“He advised Mr. Campbell then walked out of the room, began yelling, and then quickly left,” an officer said in the report.

Strozier was later pronounced dead at Piedmont Walton Hospital.

Investigators were still speaking with witnesses when the county’s 911 center received a call about a black Nissan Altima that ran off the road into a wood line on East Church Street, a few blocks from the homicide scene.

The Nissan’s doors were locked and its windows were rolled up when officers arrived about 10:45 p.m. to check it out, according to the report. Its operator, later identified as Campbell, was slumped over in the driver’s seat.

“Jevaun appeared to have a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his chest, and he was pronounced dead on scene,” the report said.

The investigation remains active, and Monroe police said they are still “attempting to identify all parties involved.” Anyone with information is asked to contact the police department at 770-267-7576 or Sgt. Darryl Powell at 770- 266-5177.
