A woman was arrested Thursday after police said she mowed down three teenage employees after arguing with them in the drive-thru of a metro Atlanta Zaxby’s.
The employees were walking away from Chelyria Palmer’s car when she drove up onto the curb and hit them, according to Clayton County police. One teen was taken to a hospital with undisclosed injuries.
Palmer, 36, was taken into custody when police arrived at the Zaxby’s location on Tara Boulevard near Southlake Mall. Officers were called to the fast-food restaurant shortly before 10:30 p.m.
“Upon arrival, officers learned a verbal altercation occurred between three juvenile employees of the incident location and the customer in (the) drive-thru line,” Clayton police said in a news release.
The argument was reportedly captured on the restaurant’s surveillance cameras. In the video, police said the three employees were seen walking outside to argue with Palmer before turning around to leave.
It was unclear what they argued over.
“As the juvenile victims were walking away, suspect Palmer drove her vehicle onto the curb of the business, striking the juveniles,” police said.
Palmer, who is from Stockbridge, was arrested on three counts of aggravated assault and a single count of battery. She was being held Friday at the Clayton County Jail, and bond had not been set.
The assault was the latest in a string of violent incidents to plague metro Atlanta fast-food restaurants. In the past month, two people were shot at a DeKalb County Cook Out, a woman fired warning shots after she was choked at a Newnan McDonald’s, and Chick-fil-A customers disarmed an alleged armed robber and held him until police arrived to a restaurant in Midtown Atlanta.
In January, employees at a Chick-fil-A in Buckhead were forced to barricade themselves inside when a woman upset by COVID-19 protocols began throwing cement bricks at the drive-thru window, according to Atlanta police. Investigators released surveillance footage in that case and are asking for the public’s help to identify two female suspects.
