Two people died and two were injured in a wreck Thursday evening on Interstate 20 in Carroll County.

The wreck involved a tractor trailer and a Cadillac SUV, according to a Georgia State Patrol news release. Killed in the wreck were the driver of the tractor trailer, Ronald Kent, 57, from Atlanta and his passenger, Shubin Guo, 45 of Norcross. Preliminary reports suggest the big rig and the SUV were both traveling eastbound before making contact and leaving the roadway. Both entered the median, where the tractor trailer jackknifed, separating the cab from the trailer, according to the release. The separated cab continued to travel, hit a pillar of the South Van Wert Road Bridge and caught fire. The big rig’s driver and passenger died at the scene, authorities said.

Two passengers from the SUV were transported to Tanner Medical Center in Villa Rica with non-life-threatening injuries.

Two other vehicles, traveling westbound, were damaged after hitting debris that landed in the roadway.

Lanes, in both directions between exits 19 and 24 , were expected to remain closed until the department of transportation examined the bridge for damage, a GSP spokesman said.
