Actress Abigail Breslin adopts a dog in Roswell

Oscar-nominated actress Abigail Breslin adopted a puppy from a Roswell humane society while filming a movie in Georgia last week.

The 12-year-old saw the puppy while on set of the movie Zombieland. She's been begging for a puppy for three years, but her mother, Kim, said the time just wasn't right.

Abigail shows her new puppy one of the toys she bought her. She named the dog Andalucia.

Before she became Andalucia, the dog was named Ellie, and she waited patiently in her crate for the Breslin family to show up and adopt her March 14.

This is Andalucia's litter the day they came into the Southern Hope Humane Society shelter. Andalucia is the puppy on the far right.

The puppy, an Australian shepherd mix, had a rough start -- she broke out with a severe illness two days after she was rescued and hovered near death for four days.

Abigail first saw Andalucia at a Powder Springs' vet's office. A vet tech had put the puppies in the back yard to get some sun. The puppies drew a crowd from the movie set, including Abigail.

Abigail spent about an hour bonding with the puppy at the shelter. She says she can't decide if she wants to be a vet or an actress when she grows up.

Abigail's mother, Kim Breslin, said they went on a two-day shopping spree, buying pink leashes, collars, bowls and toys for the female puppy.

But when they went to put Andalucia in her new carrier, she was too big. Luckily the Top Dog Pet Boutique was in the same Roswell shopping center.

Why carry when you can roll? In the store, Kim and Abigail found dog strollers. "Got any in pink?" they asked. This limited edition model costs $169.95.
