Workers were hard at work on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2024 replacing the iconic gold leaf atop the dome of the Georgia Capitol, part of $392 million worth of renovations that include a new legislative office building, parking deck, meeting rooms, offices and air conditioning system. Family of the deceased suspect huddled nearby outside the crime scene tape. A Carroll County sheriff's deputy was taken to a hospital after being shot Tuesday morning, AUG. 20, 2024 according to officials. GBI agents are handling the investigation. A school bus was involved in a crash Wednesday morning, Aug. 28, 2024 that left several children with minor injuries, officials said. DeKalb County Fire Rescue Department got the call about the crash around 8:30 a.m. in the 4200 block of River Road. A vehicle was also involved in the crash. The bus, which was wedged in a ditch on the side of the road, was heading to Salem Middle School, located roughly six miles away, Channel 2 Action News reported. (John Spink/AJC)
