Atlanta police said the man jumped through a window at 34 Peachtree St. SW, a 32-story building near Woodruff Park.

Onlookers stood near the site where a man attempting the flee a pretrial facility in downtown Atlanta leapt out a window and fell multiple stories to the sidewalk below, police said.

Fulton County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Dan Cochran, whose department provides security at the pretrial facility, said the man was there for a “pretrial intervention” related to a drug charge.

Eyewitnesses saw the commotion just after 10 a.m. “It’s extraordinarily shocking,” one witness, Justin Israel said. “I’ve never seen anything like this before.”

Atlanta police will investigate the man’s fall, while the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office will launch an internal investigation into “all events that occurred leading up” to it, police said.
