DeKalb Superior Court Judge Mark Anthony Scott presides over a hearing Thursday, July 17, 2014 to decide whether to set aside the murder jury verdict of guilty of Pamela Ballin. Ballin was convicted last month of killing her husband, Derrick "Ricky" Ballin Sr. in 2009. Judge Scott sentenced her to a life term for the murder after denying motions for mistrial and directed verdict. The judge allowed Ballin to stay free after the jury declared her guilty last month of murdering her husband but then ordered her jailed after the public outcry. KDJOHNSON/KDJOHNSON@AJC.COM
