Are UFO sightings real? Navy pilots spotted unidentified phenomena years ago while in flight, according to the Pentagon. The Department of Defense declassified three videos Monday of footage taken in 2004 and 2015, ABC News reported.
"The aerial phenomena observed in the videos remain characterized as 'unidentified,' " a Pentagon spokesperson said.
The previously confidential videos were leaked and first published by The New York Times in 2017. The article garnered more than 1,500 responses, from skeptics saying the videos were suspicious to others announcing their own UFO sightings.

This official release happened “to clear up any misconceptions by the public on whether or not the footage that has been circulating was real or whether or not there is more to the videos,” according to the Pentagon.
You can view the mysterious footage on the Naval Air System's website.
Retired Cmdr. David Fravor was interviewed by ABC News after the 2017 release. He described his firsthand sighting as “not from this world.”
"I'm not crazy, haven't been drinking. It was — after 18 years of flying, I've seen pretty much about everything that I can see in that realm, and this was nothing close ... have never seen anything in my life, in my history of flying that has the performance, the acceleration — keep in mind this thing had no wings."

Others have been more skeptical of the blurry, black-and-white videos.
"Most likely all such sightings are optical illusions occurring in the sky like mirages in the desert," said a commenter on The New York Times piece. "They may be worth investigating as physical phenomena. Alien UFOs is the least likely explanation."
