A pedestrian is in critical condition Thursday after he was hit by a car while walking on I-20 in southeast Atlanta.

The man was rushed to a hospital following the collision, which happened in the eastbound lanes of the interstate just after 1 a.m., Atlanta police said.

Investigators said the injured man had been walking on I-20 near Fayetteville Road moments before he was struck. They did not specify if the driver involved stayed at the scene.

Police are still investigating the incident but said charges are not anticipated in the case.

All eastbound lanes of the interstate were shut down at Flat Shoals Road for two hours while police were on the scene, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. Authorities reopened the lanes about 3 a.m.
