DO THE RIGHT THING

Krystal manager is

diner’s highway angel

While I was driving recently from Atlanta to Valdosta, I stopped by a Krystal drive-thru in McDonough for lunch; ordered, paid and left. I got another 100 miles down the road when I realized I needed gas. I got to the gas station, grabbed my wallet and could not find my card, or cash.

I checked for a receipt, and called the number to the Krystal store. The manager there found my debit card. The most incredible thing happened: that manager said, “Sir, is there a Western Union there at that gas station? I want to send you money to get gas and finish your drive.” I accepted the offer.

After a short wait and a Western Union form, I had cash in my hand! I filled up my car and headed back to that Krystal. The manager was there. I couldn’t do anything but give her a hug and thank her.

This lady was amazing. I’d like say, “Thank you, Maxine. You are an amazing person!”

ELECTIONS

Next president also

may appoint justices

I would like to remind people that this presidential election is about more than the economy, defense, education and so on.

This election will also influence national judicial rulings for the next 20 to 30 years. The next president will determine the next two to four Supreme Court justices. Were Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer to retire in the coming years, either could tip the precarious balance held in check by the current mix of conservative and liberal judges

This remains a scarcely touched issue with Mitt Romney and Barack Obama, but it is one that deserves almost as much attention as the economy — and definitely more attention than Big Bird.

BENGHAZI ATTACK

Truth is a casualty

to White House spin

If you believe the bull this administration is putting out concerning the terrorist attack in Benghazi, you must believe in the Tooth Fairy.

I’m 84 years old, spent over 20 years in the military, and I have never had a leader that led from behind.

GOVERNMENT SOUP

Future is bleak as debt

grows, economy stalls

Like the proverbial frog in ever-warming water, we have failed to acknowledge our surroundings. We swim in the government soup of good intentions, class advocacy, political correctness, baseline budgeting and ever-increasing slices of pork.

To say we are in hot water is an understatement. We are a debtor nation; unemployment remains at record highs, our economy is stalled, and our national identity diminished. Although we spend more per pupil than most other countries, our educational system has failed our children. American ingenuity, self-reliance and pragmatism are being bred out of our young — replaced with a nanny-state mentality. By the time we feel the boiling water of oppressive government in our daily lives, it will be too late to return to freedom.

FOREIGN POLICY

Romney without a clue

in international affairs

One small detail Mr. Krauthammer fails to acknowledge: Mr. Romney knows absolutely nothing about foreign policy (“Foreign-policy debate may be Obama’s undoing”, Opinion, Oct. 19).

He couldn’t even go overseas without being labelled as “Mitt the Twit”.

Putin would chew him up and spit him out!
