The colloquial term “selling like hotcakes” could be changed to “selling like hot sauce” after the runaway success of a new McCormick’s product.
Wednesday, McCormick released its new Old Bay signature flavor hot sauce about 11:15 a.m. By noon, the hot sauce had sold out. The limited edition sauce, made by the flavor experts, comes in a three-pack of 10-ounce bottles, a restaurant-sized 64-ounce bottle or as a three-pack of 5-ounce bottles. The sauce options sell for $9.99 to $12.99.
“The iconic flavor of Old Bay, now in a hot sauce! Tangy with a kick of heat and Old Bay’s unique blend of herbs and spices, it makes all kinds of food all kinds of awesome,” reads a message on the McCormick website.
If you missed the flavor train, you’re in luck. McCormick announced on Twitter that it would be restocking pronto.
“Your (love) for all things OLD BAY may have broken the Internet,” the @OldbaySeasoning message reads. “Thanks for always being ready to try something new. SOLD OUT, but RESTOCKING. Please stay tuned!”
If the sauce continues to be too hot for the internet, Old Bay connoisseurs have a secondary option of picking up a bottle in-store next month, according to the Baltimore Sun. The company plans to stock up grocery stores including Food Lion, Safeway Wegmans and Giant in February. A 10-ounce bottle has a suggested retail price of $3.49, according to the company.
The lovers of all things spicy announced their success in snagging the sauce and disappointment in the cases where the flavor was out of reach.
Some complained about the “broken internet” aka the Old Bay site crashing when attempting a purchase Wednesday.
Old Bay will soon announce when the product is restocked on the site. For updates and to purchase later, visit
