Perhaps the most famous gangster of all time, Al 'Scarface' Capone, led 'The Chicago Outfit' during the Depression. Unlike many mobsters, Capone was a very public figure and had a Robin Hood reputation of helping the poor. Convicted of tax evasion in 1931, he was released in 1939 after serving time in Atlanta and also Alcatraz. He died in 1947 in his home after suffering a heart attack.
