Two intersection improvement projects are underway in north DeKalb County.

The Central DeKalb Perimeter Improvement District is funding left-turn lane extensions at busy intersections in Brookhaven and Dunwoody, according to a news release. The organization, which consists of multiple groups of commercial property owners who pay additional property taxes to enhance transportation infrastructure, budgeted $268,400 for the two projects.

Both projects aim to improve traffic flow in the Perimeter Market area, which is known as a bustling business district. The roads are near I-285, which is undergoing its own massive improvement project along with Ga. 400.

“When employees re-enter the Perimeter Market after so many months of working from home during COVID, they will come back to a more efficient experience thanks to these two intersection projects,” Ann Hanlon, executive director of Perimeter Center Community Improvement Districts, said in the release.

The Brookhaven project will extend the left-turn lane from Perimeter Summit Parkway to Ashford Dunwoody Road by 250 feet. In Dunwoody, construction crews will extend the left-turn lane from Perimeter Center West to Perimeter Center Parkway by 200 feet.

Both locations were identified as congested areas pre-pandemic, and several new developments in the area are expected to worsen traffic conditions when employees return to working in-person.

Work on the construction projects began Monday and are expected to end in June.
