Wendy Williams' life story is getting the biopic treatment on Lifetime.
A&E Networks, which owns Lifetime, announced the news on Tuesday. Williams will executive produce the biopic, which will be "revealing the highs and lows she has experienced throughout the years."
"The authorized project provides a revealing look at Wendy’s journey, from her scrappy upstart days in urban radio to the success of her own syndicated talk show," the news release said. "Despite all the naysayers and obstacles Wendy encountered throughout her life, her strength and determination have allowed her to thrive."
The timing of the project comes after Williams filed for divorce from her former manager and estranged husband, Kevin Hunter, after more than 20 years of marriage. Hunter allegedly had a yearslong affair with another woman and had a child with her. Williams has since moved on and said she is dating a doctor. Hunter and Williams have one son, 18-year-old Kevin Hunter Jr.
The biopic is from Will Packer Media and starts production in the fall. It is slated for a 2020 release. It's not clear if it will include Williams' marriage, the alleged affair or Hunter's other child.
The movie will also come with a companion documentary on Williams' life, which will be produced by eOne and Creature Films.
This isn't the first biopic on Williams. In 2008, she and Hunter financed and produced a biopic on her life called "Queen of Media." It was loosely based on her 2001 New York Times bestselling autobiography, "Wendy's Got the Heat." The film, which starred Robin Givens as the radio and media personality, was shelved when Williams got her daytime talk show.
