5 things to know about the USDA ground beef recall

For those who just bought a pack of ground beef from the supermarket or recently indulged in a succulent burger at a local restaurant, headlines about a recall of over 167,000 pounds of ground beef are shocking and unsettling.

Here's what you need to know:

1. Which products are included?

The recall includes products distributed by Nebraska-based meat company All American Meats. Items include 60- and 80-pound boxes of ground beef produced Oct. 16 with a Nov. 3 "sell by" date, a USDA inspection stamp and an establishment number of 20420 ("EST. 20420"). 2. Why are they being recalled? 
The ground beef items may be contaminated with E. coli
3. Has anyone gotten sick? 
So far, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled meat. 
4. How do I know if I've been affected?
According to the USDA, E. coli bacteria can cause dehydration, diarrhea, cramps and kidney failure. These symptoms develop 2–8 days after exposure to the bacteria.
